Rain/Bad Weather Information

Willow Bend Pool
(512) 310-1833 for pool conditions

Parents: You are the ultimate judge on the safety of your child(ren). Below, we have posted the rules/guidelines that we follow. Please use your judgement on letting your swimmer(s) walk, ride to practice in unpredictable weather or in dropping them off.

We WILL swim if it is raining.

We will NOT swim if:

  • there is thunder and/or lightning
  • it is raining hard enough to obscure the bottom of the pool

Practices:  If thunder, lightning or steady rains starts during practice, swimmers will be removed from the pool and we will wait 15 to 20 past the last incidence of thunder or lightning before we allow them back in the pool

Swim Meets:   Texas weather is unpredictable, especially early in the morning. It may be best to attempt to delay the meet for an hour rather than canceling it immediately. If it appears we will not be able to start the meet safely by 9:30 a.m., we will most likely cancel it.

If a storm pops up after a meet has started, swimmers will be removed from the water when there is thunder, lightning or steady rain that obscures the bottom of the pool. We will wait 15 to 20 past the last incidence of thunder or lightning before we allow them back in the pool. We can also monitor the weather via computer.

Notification:   If practice or a swim meet is cancelled, we will attempt to post it on this website and send out an email to the email list. Each week, the newsletter will include phone numbers that can be called on meet mornings.

Back-up Plans:   In case of weather changes, please have a back-up plan for your swimmer (bike riders, walkers, etc). Everyone must be out of the water during a thunderstorm and if lightning is seen. Swim practice may continue if it is only raining and the coaches feel practice will be beneficial. In case of doubt, you can call the pool and ask the lifeguard if swim practice is on. If the weather changes quickly, and the swimmers must get out of the pool, a coach will remain with them until everyone is picked up.
