Message from the Board

Board President Paul WadehraThanks to all who participated in the dual meet at Forest North this weekend. We had many time improvements - great job by all. And this week the 13-14 Boys A relay broke their own record in the 200 Medley Relay.

Congratulations to the swimmers who qualified for Invitationals. Your special swim caps will be in your folder.

Remember that Meet Attendance Forms (MAFs) are returned to the front folder of the MAF box, labeled "Return MAFs Here". They do not go back into the folder with the blank forms. We've been pulling the forms out when we see them, but we don't want you to miss out on a meet because the form was returned to the wrong place!

This week will be the second of our 3 consecutive away meets, at Block House Creek. It is a bit further drive so plan accordingly. Those of you that have been with the team for a few years know that we've had some interesting weather when we get together with our friends the Tidal Waves. I'm not superstitious, but I will be bringing an umbrella!

The deadline for ordering tickets for Swim Team Night at the Round Rock Express, a fun family outing, is this Saturday, June 5. Read more

The WB Armada has terrific swimmers that participate with us year-after-year. We have a number of former WB Armada swimmers who are graduating from high school this week. Take a minute to read about their accomplishments! And give Coach Bryn a hug because her big day is Wednesday! Read more

You can contact me with questions at board@wbarmada.org. For more team information, check our website at www.wbarmada.org.

Message from the Coaches.....

Head Coach Elisa ChapaCongratulations on another fantastic swim meet! We showed some great aggressive and competitive swimming. This week is the last week of school, then morning practice starts on Friday! Finally- SUMMER! I know the last week of school is busy, but still try to make as many practices as possible. We have been coaching many drills and practicing all the strokes, now it's time to hone in on those, and make them faster.

Starting next week, we will have stroke clinics available after morning practices. Each clinic is 30 minutes and is a more of a small group instruction with a coach. You can choose from 12:00 to 12:30 or 12:30 to 1:00. The clinic is $10 a swimmer, and you can sign up in the book that will be available at the pool later this week. This is a great idea if you want to get a little extra advice on turns, dives, or your technique.

Thank you for your kind words with the Stingrays, positivity, and good sportsmanship. Don't forget to fill out your MAFs on time, or let a coach know if you need to scratch. Congratulations to the Fast Fishies and Kickin' Hard recipients this week! You guys have been working so hard- keep it up! Let's practice hard this week to get ready for Blockhouse next weekend. I want to see all your tie dyed things!

There are extra forms available in the small folder box located next the family folder boxes. If you have multiple children that will miss a meet, it is okay to put that on one form.

Scratch

It is extremely important to the team that each swimmer who signs up for a meet shows up on race morning. Please be on time!

Be on time:This week we need every swimmer to be in their pit area no later than 6:30 a.m. - See Map. Please allow yourself about 15 minutes for the drive.

Removal from relays: Any swimmer who is not in their pit area by 6:30 a.m. this week may be removed from their relay. This is not punishment for the swimmer - it is necessary for us to get the changes to the computer table on time so the meet can start on time.

Scratching from a meet: If you sign up for a meet, you are expected to show up on time ready to swim. If the swimmer is ill or there is a family emergency please fill out a blue Scratch Form by end-of-practice Friday. You may also send an email to "mindy@wbarmada.org" and "coach@wbarmada.org" by 8 p.m. Friday. After 8 p.m. please send a text message to Paul at 659-1373 or call . Please don't call between 9:30 pm and 5:30 am but do call before 6:30 a.m.

Acceptable excuses: The WB Armada is just like being on a soccer team or basketball team - we need everyone to sign-up for and show-up for meets. We count on every swimmer each week - everyone who is able to swim the length of the pool is able to participate. There are no bench warmers in this sport.

We understand that swimmers become ill, families plan vacations and sometimes there are other conflicts that make it difficult or impossible to attend. It is Not Acceptable to sign up for a meet and then just not feel like getting up on time. This makes a lot of extra work for coaches and volunteers Saturday mornings as we scramble to replace swimmers in relays and may leave some swimmers unable to swim their relay without a 4th swimmer. We are counting on you to follow the Scratch procedures to let us know if you are unable to attend or are going to be a few minutes late.

Swim-A-Thon & Silent Auction

Mark your calendars for our fun-filled Swim-a-thon and Silent Auction scheduled for Tuesday June 13. This is our only fundraiser of the season and it is a major part of our yearly budget. It helps pay for coaches salaries and equipment/supplies.

The swim-a-thon is a family event with all swimmers in the pool and parents sitting at poolside counting laps. There will be free hot dogs, popcorn and snow cones for everyone! Swimmers are able to take breaks - they do not have to swim continously.

Swimmers can win door prizes and prizes for collecting the most donations.

Donations for Swim-a-thon and Silent AuctionSwimathon

Donation and sponsorship envelopes will show up in your folders soon. Swimmers are asked to safely ask for support from family, friends and neighbors. Swimmers should not go door-to-door without parental assistance. Each family agreed at registration to collect at least $50 in donations but we'd sure appreciate larger donations when possible.

This year we are adding a Silent Auction! We will put together baskets of goodies for everyone to bid on if they choose. Mary Hale is in charge of the Silent Auction and she would like to invite anyone who has a connection to a retail business to ask them for a donation of goods or services. Please contact Mary Hale at 789-3904 for more information or to get a donation request letter with the team’s letterhead.
