Message from the Board

Hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July. We had great weather and the new float was was decorated beautifully for the parade. Special thanks to Livia Gross for organizing, and to the Padavick family for lending us their boat for the "new" float!

Volente Beach was a great time - it seemed that most of the folks there were from Armada! What a fun way to spend the Monday of the holiday weekend. Thanks for planning it Beth!

This Saturday we make the short road trip to Pflugerville for our last dual meet of the season. See below in the newsletter for meet details.

Next Wednesday, 7/14, is our annual awards night, at 7pm at the gym at the Rec Center on Shoreline Drive. There will be something for everyone at this fun event.

The following Saturday, 7/17, will be our Divisional Meet with Balcones Country Club and Block House Creek, at our pool. It will be a fun meet with lots of special treats. Then on Sunday 7/18 at UT will be the Invitational Meet for those swimmers who qualified. Good luck to all!

You can contact me with questions at board@wbarmada.org. For more team information, check our website at www.wbarmada.org.

Message from the Coaches.....

Hi Armada Parents and Swimmers!

I hope that each of you had a restful and wonderful Fourth of July! I know last week was a bit different with no meet and the weather! Hopefully we have better weather this week so we can get some good practices in before the last dual meet of the season.

Make sure that you turn in your MAF for divisionals by Tuesday! The coach's will try to put you in the events you want, but we are going to put you in the events that are also good for the team. At divisionals, the scoring is a bit different so there are a lot more opportunities for getting points. We might get a little creative with relays in order to utilize our maximum potential!! We are going to do awesome, and I can't wait for all our hard work to continue to pay off!

See ya at the pool!

Requests must be made by July 14 and refunds must be claimed by end-of-season. Any refunds remaining at the end of our season will be forfeited.

MAF Due Tues

The Meet Attendance Form for the Divisional Championships is due Tuesday, July 6. Please put in the "completed" folder in the MAF Box. Do not return to your own folder.

EVERY swimmer should turn these forms in by the deadline. Mark the box indicating if you will swim or not.

Please indicate what events you want to swim in order with number one indicating your top choice. If there is an event or two you are trying to get an Invitational time in, we will make every effort to let you swim that event.

It is so important to our team that as many swimmers participate as possible in this meet. The winning team gets a giant team trophy and the individual swimmers can earn special awards. This final meet ranks our team for next year and determines our division.

All swimmers who have competed in two dual meets and have a legal time in each event they are signed up for can participate in the championship meet.

Following the Saturday meet against Pflugerville, you can email Mindy if you want to change your number one choice for the Divisional meet.

Yes, you can qualify for Invitationals at the Divisional meet.

Invitational MAF

Invitational Qualifers - MAFs due Fri, July 9 or Sat July 10.

Each swimmer who has posted an Invitational Qualifying time will receive a blue MAF form in their folders this week. The events they have qualified for are marked on the form. You can only swim events you qualify for and you can only swim up to 3 events.

Invitational Meet Psych Sheet
Click on this link to see where you rank in the circuit.

Warm-ups are generally in the morning but I don't have a start time yet. Meet date is Sunday, July 18.

Please return these forms to the MAF box by Friday July 9 or at the Pflugerville meet Saturday, July 10. All swimmers who qualify at the Pflugerville or at the Divisional meet will have an opportunity to enter the Invitational meet.

It will be critical at the Divisional meet for all swimmers who think they qualify that day to talk to Mindy Lewis directly. I will be by the computer table most of the time. Anyone not entered by Saturday 7/17 will not be allowed to swim at the meet.
Questions? Contact mindy@wbarmada.org.

Divisional T-shirt

Please help Armada swim team express our appreciation for all our coaches this season! Start thinking of creative, fun ways to say Thank You (cards, homemade gifts, etc)… Be on the lookout for more information concerning this day in your family folders.

The board will provide breakfast for the coaches and junior coaches.

Awards Night

Make your plans to attend the annual Wells Branch Armada Awards Night. The big event will be held at the Wells Branch Recreation Center on Shoreline Drive from 7-9 pm on Wed., July 14.

Each hard-working swimmer on the team as earned a special award for being a part of the 2010 WBA Swim Team. Each swimmer will be recognized by name and brought up to the front of the room to receive their award.

We will award "high-point" awards for the top three point-earners in each age group and each gender. Swimmers who have set team records will receive an award. Swimmers with perfect attendance at every dual swim meet will receive an award. In addition, the coaches have a number of other awards planned for hard-working swimmers.

Swimathon prizes will also be awarded.

There will be refreshments and a DVD presentation of the season.

There are many swimmers and we want each swimmer to be recognized. We ask that you talk to your swimmers ahead of time about the importance of sitting and listening during the ceremony. It does take some time to get through all the awards but each award is important.

Swim-A-Thon

We want to tell each of you again how much we support the attendance and support of our annual swimaton and silent auction.

We are still collecting donations and will announce a grand total at Awards Night.

Each family is obligated to a $50 minimum donation for the swimaton. The deadline for swimmers to turn in their money is July 7 - there is a folder in the file boxes you can use that is checked frequently. Money received after July 7 is not eligible for prizes.

If you have questions or concerns about payment of swimathon fees, please contact Mary Hale or Susan Hammack.

The grand prizes will be awarded to the top three swimmers who raise the most funds.
1st place - $150 gift card
2nd place - $125 gift card
3rd place - $100 gift card

Movie tickets will be awarded to individual swimmers who raise $100 in funds.

The grand prizes and the movie tickets are per swimmer, not per family. Each child that is interested in trying for the grand prizes or movie tickets should have their own sponsorship envelope. There will be extras located in the front of the swimmer's file box in a folder marked Swim-A-Thon. The prizes will be awarded at the WBA Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, July 14th.

Anytime is a great time to visit our sponsors but we have also set-up the following times for a special Armada "Thank-You"

Gattiland is so supportive of teams and schools in our area - including being very generous with the Wells Branch Armada for many years.
Let's all meet at Gattiland on June 27 for pizza and a great evening!

It is a buffet style restaurant that features salad, pasta, pizza and desert items. There is also a gameroom with games for the whole family.
June 28 - July 8 Papa Murphy's Pizza

July 10 Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers
2602 FM 1825
Pflugerville, TX 78660
512-251-9332
Pflugerville is a bit off the usual path for most of us here in Wells Branch but Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers is a two-year sponsor of our team anyway.

What a great idea to stop at Freddy's after our swim meet against Pflugerville on July 10.

Invitational Team

The MAF for the Invitational Meet will be put in the file folders Tuesday. It is due Friday, July 9. Qualifers from the Pflugerville and Divisional meets will be added to the Invitational meet.
